JUNGFRAU REGION RAILWAYS
To experience the stunning high magnificent peaks of of the Alps mountains, the region of the Jungfrau has been attracting the adventurous and seekers of sight-seeing wonder for a century. Tourists first began filling specially built hotels of Interlaken in the 19th Century’s La Belle Epoch, traveling by rail up to the high altitudes of the massif of the three peaks which divide central Switzerland from the south Valais. There are five major vista travel experiences, some by rail alone, some in combination of rail and aerial cable car, from Europe's highest rail station with brilliant views to a revolving movie icon, with quant Alpine villages and year round resorts in between.
Jungfraujoch – The Top of Europe
At 11,332 feet above sea level, the Jungfraujoch station inside the mountain is famously the highest railway station in all of Europe. Snow and ice surrounding the observation center up the elevator ride are guaranteed. Stop at the windows of the Eiger North Face inside the mountain before arrival at the top of Europe. Explore the Sphinx Terrace overlooking the glistening white perma snow of the Aletsch Glacier, clinging between the peaks of the Jungfrau and Mönch. Delve into the Ice Palace cavern carved from the glacial ice underneath, or hike out the Walking Plateau for an up-close experience with year round eternal snow for walks in eternal snow. JungfraujochKleine Scheidegg – Eiger North Face
This village at the foot of the mountain triplets of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau from where the railway to the Jungfraujoch begins its ascent offers a towering view of the Eiger North Face. Have lunch in a giant indian teepee or stay in s mountain snow clad resort hotel at the base of rocky crags. Kleine Scheidegg is a meeting point for mountain hikers and climbers from around the world. The railways take two routes from here, to Grindelwald or Wengen.
Schynige Platte – Natural Paradise
The Schynige Platte is a true alpine adventure. Take the historic cogwheel train, to well maintained and marks hiking trails of high Alps meadows and through botanical Alpine garden.
Grindelwald – First
For hikers in summer and winter sports enthusiasts when the snows come, a 20-minute aerial cable tram ride takes passengers from Grindelwald to the „First“, were a network of hiking trails trace out over the high ground where the stunning mountain peaks tower all around.
Schilthorn – Piz Gloria
Not technically part of the Jungfrau Railway System, the Schilthorn Cable is one of the best mountain top Alps views can be enjoyed with a meal in a revolving restaurant and spectacular breathtaking beauty of the Swiss Alps than from the summit of the 9,842 ft high Schilthorn mountain, a 20 minute aerial by cable car ride from Mürren.
